Most cervical cancer deaths occurring in developing nations are due to lack of diagnostic facilities and personnel. Sensible seeks to approach this lack of healthcare by designing a menstrual hygiene product that can utilize naturally discharging menstrual blood (menses) to screen for cervical diseases. To adopt menses as a diagnostic medium, we invented a low-cost, lab-free, and easy-to-use product sufficient for collecting, sampling, and, ultimately, analyzing life-threatening diseases.

About Sensible.

About the Team.

The Sensible Team is made up of amazing inventors. Throughout our journey, the team has learned many different aspects of what it’s like to work as a team and discover avenues that could bring our innovation to a reality. Keeping in mind equality, kindness, sustainability, and feasibility, we were able to experience numerous pathways that would help nurture and grow our character both individually and as a team.

Our experiences as a team have provided us the avenue to look broadly at the world around us and focus on how to help the communities to empower not only ourselves but the people of the world.

Awards & Recognition

At the beginning of 2022, our original three members entered a competition called HOSA, Health Occupational Students of America. They entered an event in which they had to ideate a medical device that could help others in the world, thus Sensible was born. They took this idea all the way, and made it to ILC, the International Leadership Conference, and placed 3rd internationally for the Medical Innovation event.

In September of 2022, our team was one of the 10 teams nationally to win the Lemelson-MIT grant. We were awarded $7,500 and invaluable resources to take advantage of. At the very end, we were invited to present our solution at EurekaFest at MIT. Sensible is also now patent-pending! We filed our provisional patent application on February 15, 2023 to protect our invention with patent agent Shirley Fung.

Most recently, we attended the U Launch Jumpstart Competition, where we were honored to win first place for our performance and receive recognition from NC Governor Roy Cooper!
